my axies have been ill since i got them about a year ago. three days after theyre officially all better and they go back in their tank i get eggs!! typical she laid them the day we go away for almost a week. i tried so hard to get them to breed on so many occasions and just when id given up and decided shes too young, voila! im going to separate her from the boys for a while to re-coup. anything more i can do when i get back other than keep aerationa and water quality good and removing the fungusy eggs? would methelene blue be safe to prevent fungus on the eggs and embreos?
also, does anyone have any microworm cultures you could send me? i have plenty of live daphnia, brine shrimp eggs and mosquito larvae for when they get bigger but i heard microworms are ideal and i cant be sure the daphnia and mosquito larvae are sterile as theyre both being cultivated outside for my fish fry. im in england if anyone has any microworms going spare?

thanks for all your help! :D

Congrats Amy!

I didn't use methelene blue on my eggs. I just removed any of them that did not develop or stopped developing.

The newly hatched brine shrimp are ideal food for the axolotl larvae when they first hatch. Brine shrimp are all I ever used at that size.

If you try micro worms let me know how they do on them. I had some starts of micro worms last summer and I ended up tossing them out.

Keep us posted on your progress

can someone tell me with what and how often should I feed my new born axolotls

Mario - they only eat live food at that size. Newly hatched brine shrimp, daphnia or micro worms will work. Brine shrimp is my preference.

They need to have food pretty much in front of them all the time. Daphnia can live in the water with the axolotl larvae. Brine shrimp live in fresh water for several hours.

Take a look at this page, it offers information on rearing.

Congratulations on your eggs Amy. Its funny how when you least expect something to happen it does.

hi can someone tell me if there is any portuguese site about axolotls

yeah the same happened to me when i spent a week at my boyfriends mams to go to crufts!lol.came back to a tank full of eggs again!hehe.

im going home tomorrow so i guess theyll all be starting to take shape! its so exciting! my first clutch of axie eggs! plus me thinks the fish will be breeding again when i get home.

theyre looking a bit more like axies now and according to the embryo growth chart they should start to be growing their gills by tomorrow! woohoo! when should i start hatching out the brine shrimp do you think?

Amy, do a brine shrimp test batch to see how long they take to hatch... Once you know this you will then have some ort of idea when to start hatching them..

Remember tho axies can take a few days to start feeding.. just keep a eye on the yolk sac.

Oh and i read that you wanted mirco worms.. Go to .. www.pollywog.co.uk he has some starter kits you could buy!

thanks kim. usually the brine shrimp take 24 hours to hatch. ive done it so many times with the fish babies now its like second nature to me, and since the fish take a couple of days to absorb their egg sacks and i usually start hatching the shrimp when i see the first few fry, i think ill do the same with the axies since they seem to have very similar patterns when they hatch. thanks everyone! ill keep you posted on their progress and get some pics when theyve hatched! just in case anyones interested, the mum is a golden albino and the dad is either wildtype or melanoid.

Sounds like a good brine shrimp plan Amy. Yes please do post of pictures of your larvae progress
