Here's one from a known location in Akita Prefecture of northern Japan. She had been in quarantined for 2 long months, having been bloated when I got her. She entered the general population today (joining other C. pyrrhogaster of various genetically distinct groups)

Notice how the red markings extend to the underside of her legs.

Note: Somewhere along the line, references to "Tohuko" have popped up in literature to refer to this northernmost "race" of C. pyrrhogaster. All the race names come from geographical areas, such as Kanto (a plain that includes the Tokyo metropolis), Sasayama (a town in Hyogo Prefecture), Atsumi (a peninsula in central Japan), and Hiroshima (a city and its surrounding prefecture). "Tohoku" is the name of the area encompassing the prefectures of northern Honshu Island. So while the name "Tohuko" may be scientifically valid for some reason or another, it appears to be based on an error in phoneticization of the place name
