Hi all.
Was watching my newt earlier and noticed she was extending her tongue out of her mouth. I wasn't aware newts did this and found it very odd, especially since she wasn't actually trying to feed. She was on land when she opened her mouth and the tongue just shot out for a second. Does anyone know why she did this? or has anyone seen it in their newts?

I've seen a juvenile orientalis stick its tongue out to catch a prey. Similar what you'd see with a frog but with a much shorter tongue, but it was still pretty cool.

I saw this in my group of juvenile H. orientalis. I think this behaviour might be a part of yawning or stretching the tongue muscles.
