Just curious...the supposed female decided to take a walk and didn't come back...

I believe the male is on the bottom...correct? The female has the lonfer tail and you can kinda see that the males vent is more swollen. I think the girth difference was probably due to how well fed they were-the female refused food.

The supposed male(still in the tank). Shorter tail, slightly swollen vent.

Even though he's eating...he seems to have a sore...visible in this pic. I used a Q-tip to dab the area with hydrogen peroxide and waiting for the fizzing to subside before putting him back in the water. Anything else I should do? How long will it take to heal?

Hmm...these images arent working. If you are a mod and you see this...feel free to edit it.

On the photo gallery start page (bottom) you find an explanation:

\... image{The title of my photo} (drop "... ")

use this command, you'll be able to upload pictures here; the command you use works on phpbb-forums, but not here.

By the way, I think you may be correct about male/female. Ashame your female ran off, keep in mind that cynops can escape via virtually every small whole. So secure your tank or your male will go after her.

And here you may find some answers about the sore:

good luck

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
