Does any one know a low current low heat emitting filter preferably one you have kept with Chinese fire bellied species or any other species with the same care requirements.

A sponge filter would be you best bet heat wise....Canisters/waterfall/duettos and such will add some heat to the water. What are the temps the tank is at now? Do you have the lights to just keep it a planted tank?

Temp is usually around room temperature. Don't any lighting yet. I do have some java moss that doesn't seem to mind.

I don't keep them with a filter. I house them over some zeolite and driftwood covered in java moss, and they do fine with fortnightly waterchanges. They're also overstocked. Unless you want a pump to serve some aquascaping/aesthetic purpose, I personally don't think it's needed.
