Cynops Orientalis Cut/Gash

Looks like my newts may have been fighting during feeding time, I noticed today one of them has a small cut or gash on his nose. I'm not really sure if this is something i need to worry about. I'm concerned because I don't want him getting an infection or anything. I need some advice as to what I should be doing here, if anything can be done. Thanks.

Well the first thing I would do, if you have an extra tank, quarantine him in there till his lip heals. Newts dont fight really, but if they are to close when feeding, a mishap like yours is possible to happen. Other than that, i dont know. Someone should post an antibiotic that you could use. Neosporin without painkiller might work but wait for someone else to say otherwise.

I have heard Bactine is good, but again I agree with John, Im not positive this is the best. If you don't hear otherwise give either Neosporin(no pain killer) or Bactine a try.

For what its worth, in my research, topical antiseptics(Bactine, alcohol) never work as well as an antibiotic. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Alright I'll give that a shot tomorrow if I haven't heard otherwise. We have a huge blizzard here right now and I can't leave the house at the moment. So hopefully this time tomorrow it will have cleared and I can go out and get what I need for him. Thanks.

Jon, if he is still going into the water you might want to give the water a teeny tiny sprinkle of salt to make sure he doesnt start to grow a fungus on his lip.
im not sure if this works with newts but it works really really well on my lotls, you might watn to ask John Clare about it first though.

So I've been trying out the Bactine on the lip. So far so good. It doesn't really seem to be healing, or from what I can tell.. But it doesn't look infected or bad or anything. Hopefully it heals up soon though. Anyone know how long a Cynops Orientalis usually takes to heal from such a wound? I've tried taking pics but my camera doesn't want to focus in so closely, so I can't get a shot.
