Hi folks

i need some real practical advice for keeping Cynops cyanurus

1) can i house a 3 trio of Cynops cyanurus in a 1.5ftx1ftx1ft tank?
2) can i keep them at a between 22degree to 25 degrees?
3) are Cynops cyanurus aggressive like paddletails and warty newts biting each other?

i have kept paddletails and warty newts before and they were very aggressive to each other esp in a small 2ft tank.

thanks

C. ensicauda popei is tolerant of higher temperatures that C. cyanurus. Although the animals tolerate water temperatures of up to 30ºC (86ºF) during summer, the best temperatures for them during most of the year is between 20 and 24ºC (68 and 75ºF). During the winter months, however, it is advised to lower water temperatures for at least 8 weeks to a range from 12 to 16ºC (54 to 61ºF) to stimulate breeding behavior.

That was taken from Caudata Culture.

I think you could probably keep two or three C. ensicauda popei in a 10 gallon tank. But make sure its the correct setup and that your tank is cycled :) Hope this helps!

hi seth

thanks for advice
one thing i am worried is the aggression level of Cynops.
i have kept Pachytriton and Paramesotriton before, these were very aggressive even in a 2FT tank.
i can always see the dominant male chasing and biting others. until some have to go and hide on the top of driftwood dry land area. i think this is not good for them.

are Cynops more peaceful and can live in a small group like a trio?

thanks
