Hiiiii. I built my first walstad tank yesterday. Actually came out pretty well! Now you don't really need a cycle with a. Walstad tank, from mY understanding. But while my axolotl is waiting in a ten gal, is there a different type of cycle I should do? I put a nylon with some axolotl food in there for an ammonia source, and yet no ammonia is showing up, where before it was a walstad the pellets would cause an ammonia spike immediately. Should I just add my axolotl tomorrow morning?

If you have an established filter and at least 70% of the the tank planted, it will pretty much instantly and silent cycle. The soil and plants are an ammonia source, and the plants will use the ammonia as food. Keep watching for another couple of days just in case there is a spike, but Diana Walstad says that she puts a few fish in as soon as she's set up.
