Question: Cycling my filter?

I just added a brand new filter to my tank and I plan to take the other one out and use it in my other tank. How long until the new filter is established enough for me to remove the older filter?

Can you transfer some of the filter medium from the old one to the new? Should speed things up if you can.

If not ours took about a month to cycle in, and that was with both filters running and bacteria starter pearls.

No the old one is a sponge. The new filter is a 3 stage its keeping my tank so clean I love it.
