For my neighbors birthday this year her mother wants to get her an axie after seeing how much joy raising mine has been for me. So I'm giving them my spare tank and have bought a hailea hl-bt 400 filter and have set it up in my current axies tank along side my current fluval filter. I plan on leaving the new filter in my tank for 2-3 weeks before introducing it into the new tank and then monitoring the levels from there. What do you guys think? is there anything else you'd suggest?

I plan on setting up the new tank much like my axies one(there should be a picture attached of my current 2ft tank) barebottom with a mixture of fake plants and live floating plants with some pipe and pot hides.

You can do that as long as the water you use to fill the new tank is cycled., meaning, use water from your tank and putting it in the new one. If not then using tap water will kill your beneficial bacteria in the filter. I would also dose with some beneficial bacteria liquid just to help out more. And in a few days or a week checks the levels and everything should be good.

I thought you could use filter media from a cycled tank to seed a fresh cycle in a new tank? Is that not the case?
