Curious Temperature question

Every piece of info i could find when researching CFB's led me to keeping the temperature under 74F (22C).. My water level's been at a constant 72 since I've made this set up but last night the air conditioner dropped it to about 68F (20C)..

I'm just wondering what is the line where its too cold for them?

Actually 22º C is their upper limit and even those temps can be stressful. Chinese firebelly newts do not come from the tropics, and I've let my animals go to temps as low as 4º celcius with no problems. Infact, introducing your animals to temperatures around 10º celcius and below during winter encourages breeding. The best year round temperatures to keep your animals at are probably between 16º and 18º celcius.

Thanx for the feedback, I am trying to drop the temp as we speak- I need to buy another thermometer! lol This one i have's lowest reading is 18C.. Looks like this winter I'll be sleeping with sweatshirts and the window open ::shivers:: lol

You get used to it. lol. If you want to drop the temperature more, use a fan to blow over the top of the water. This facilitates evaporation, causing cooling. I recommend using an airstone or small filter when doing the fan thing though, as you get a film of dust on top of the water.
