I looked at crushed marble, but decided against it as I think its too rough.

The axie's skin is very delicate and if they get frightened and suddenly dart along the bottom of the tank they could easily rip their skin on the marble.

If you can't find any sand in the shops try online pet stores - I don't know any links but other people on here do

If you can, order sand online

Substrate helps good bacteria to colonize. bare bottoms are soooo boring. Sand comes in so many different colors, I wouldn't go with crushed Marble. I have black sand in my tank.

Its just a bit hard to order sand online here in australia, ive looked a few times for places to order and no luck, the places that some people recommend to order online are companies that dont post to australia at all, that is my problem,

so i went to crushed marble, it seems pretty good, it settles easier too and that way their isnt much mess, as for the axie he has had a gulp of the marble but spat it out again, and he has been fine ever since,

has anyone else had any bad experiences with crushed marble, at all?

do you have a toys r us there where you live? i got childrens play sand from there and just washed it thoroughly. it settled quite quickly when i filled the tank with water
