Crushed coral for raising PH?

Axies can bare a very wide range of pH so unless it's freakishly acidic/alkaline i wouldn't worry

I agree, it may be unnecessary. What is your pH (both tank and source water), and what method are you using to measure it?

PH level is currently at 6.0.

Tap water is around 7.2. - using universal indicator solution.

theoretically, a few water changes will get it back to normal, right? (provided the source of acidity is removed - which I feel may be some frozen food remnants.)

I was just wanting to explore other options to see if the coral could work any faster to get my tank right again as quickly as possible.

I wouldn't be adding any crushed coral, maybe try some of the pH up/down solutions if water changes are doing the trick.

Crushed coral is a better way to go than pH up/down solutions. It's a more gradual, long term solution than solutions. These can cause drastic swings in water quality, first one way, and then crashing back.

Have you tried doing a thorough clean and water change? Siphon up the gunk, clean the debris out of your filter, etc. You can even make it a little bigger, 30% or more, and see if that does the trick.

My pH levels were never above 6.0 and I was advised to used crushed coral. I put 2 Cups of shell grit into a stocking and then put it into my canister filter where I had removed other filter media. The pH is now a steady 7.4 and has been in there for a few months. The person who gave me advice on this forum mentioned that theirs hadn't been changed in 2 years so it's much better than using a pH solution which costs precious money and can fluctuate!

Oh wow really, that's great to know since i was advised against the whole coral thing and told to use the solutions which i used at half dose for a little while longer than the recommendation :p
