Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone feeds crickets to there Kweichows, at the momment I feed them live bloodworm but it isnt very easy to get hold of and I cant seem to get them to eat much else.
So I was thinking about Crickets as they are so available, I have started a woodlice culture but the newts are not big enough yet to feed on them.
Any ideas would be great.
Thanks.

I´m pretty sure they´ll like pinhead crickets. Just make sure they are gut-loaded or dusted, so that they are nutritious.
I also think it´s of great help to remove the back legs so that they can´t jump and move slowlier, defenitely works for me.
Also, have you tried earthworms??They really are the best....

Yes I have tried earthworms but only two individuals will feed on them and the others just ignore them.

How many newts are we talking about? Do you just leave the earthworms in the enclosure? I've had good success feeding my T. verrucosus chopped earthworms by feeding each individually with a toothpick. I convinced the more finicky animals to do so by housing them individually in sandwich containers on paper towels with the worms. When they started disappearing regularly I tried toothpick feeding again and all has been wells since.

Obviously if you have 40 metamorphs this will not work very well.

My kweichow juveniles didn't show much interest in pinheads. I think perhaps these newts are just too slow-moving to catch them.

I agree with Abrahm's recommendation to try feeding with a toothpick or tweezers. Even if only a few are willing to eat this way, those few will grow faster and do very well once you get them eating this way.
