Hi all, just thought I might share a pic of this little guy. He is interesting in the fact that the parents are white but he does not have black iris's like its siblings, the body is pure white with absolutely NO black pigment - it is a real stand out amongst its siblings. It must be about as close as you can get to being a true Albino without actually quite making it.

We call it "crazy eyes" LOL

That is an albino axolotl, it's called a white albino. Albino is a recessive gene, meaning that the leucistic (white with black eyes) parents both carry the gene, but the don't express it.

interesting - i do have a question though. This specimen has black pupils, does this mean it is still an Albino? i was under the impression that Albino Axies had red eyes?

Most albino axolotls have gold irises. Melanoid albinos will be lacking this gold ring. All have 'black' pupils, as this is just the void inside the eye, which appears black in most light/angles.

Ok cool. So you both believe this is a White Albino then, right?

I just expected a white albino to have red pupils like my gold albino's.

If this one is an Albino then I am a very happy man. That would mean I have only one other mission to complete - the elusive harlequin ;)

Been many years and thousands of Axies just getting to this point :D

Yep sounds like mine :) He has 'crazy' eyes too and is a white albino. Congrats on your first :)

Hey thanks Sarah.

Do you have a pic of your axie, would love to see it :supercool:

Yea sure. :) I have been holding off as I only have a few from my camera phone and am trying to borrow a proper camera to take some more! But I can upload some dodgy ones in the mean time.

I have a youtube video of my axie though if you want to see:

His eyes look black in that though, must be the light. Generally they are shiny and red like yours so I will try to get a better pic for you~~
