Hi,

My fire salamanders have recently been getting jiggy. I looked in their tank today & found a clear gel like substance. Could this be the male's spermatophore? If so, would the female just go & pick it up whenever she's ready?

Any help would be much appreciated.

It´s possible but with that description it´s not possible to tell. If it is a spermatophore it must be a discarded one. They deteriorate quite fast and i expect that one that isn´t picked up inmediately, is no longer viable. Still, if there is one there will be more.

Would you advise for it to be taken out or left in? Would the female eventually pick it up if it's left in the tank?

Am desp for baby sals coz been trying to breed them for ages & never had any success.
