During our spring break, Wouter Beukema and I went to Corsica to do some herping. It was a very succesful trip with lots of interesting animals.

A list of the species we found:
Salamandra corsica
Euproctus montanus
Discoglossus sardus
Discoglossus montalentii
Rana lessonae bergeri
Podarcis siculus campestris
Podarcis siculus cetti
Podarcis tiliguerta
Archeolacerta bedriagae
Tarentola mauritanica
Hierophis viridiflavus
Natrix natrix corsa

And now the photos, enjoy

Absolutely beautiful pictures, Mark.

Would love to have been there!

That's so unfair, a tiny island in the Mediterranean has more species than england.

Great photos Mark, I like the bergeri shot.

These are some of my shots:

Salamandra corsica

A huge Corsican painted frog female, Discoglossus montalentii. The greatest known lenght is 62,5 mm (Nollert & Nollert 1992) Does anyone have recent info about this species? This female is way bigger than that.

Hi,

great pictures!
But as far as I can measure it from the picture the female is 6,3cm long (just the body)

Best greetings

Mark and Wouter, compliments

It's incredible, the dorsal pattern of Salamandra corsica looks impressive; it's like an awesome mixture of Salamandra s. bernardezi x longirostris. Genetic isolation on this species is evident...

Congratulations Mark and Wouter!
But...Salamandra corsica is not always that beautiful, most of the times they look much less yellow. You were at a good site!
If I can get my digital camera connected again to the pc I'll get you some pictures from Salamandra infraimmaculata from Turkey...on the Salamander part of this forum then...

Very nice pics Mark and Wouter!

I had never been at Corsica

What high did you find them?
I think there are mountains ut to 2700 m.

Greetings
Paul

Serge, most of them where less yellow than the two on these photos, but less than I expected. This weren't really big exceptions. Maybe your are right, and we where just very lucky!

Paul, we found these Salamandra and Discoglossus at about 1200 meters. It's a beautiful place to go to for sure!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
