My copper left me a gift over the weekend. I'm so excited. The dad is either golden, melanoid, or GFP albino. Hoping for the GFP. Does anyone know if anyone has successfully bred a GFP copper yet? I've never heard of one.

Here is a pic of the proud mama with the eggs

Your copper looks awesome and correct me if i'm wrong but isn't GFP a dominant allele? Also can you take a blacklight to the eggs to test them? idk when axolotls begin to express GFP, maybe someone with experience with GFP can answer that.

Thanks :) From my experience with other gfp eggs they dont show gfp under blacklight until they're hatched. Even as hatchlings it's hard to see with the naked eye. I'm assuming only a percentage would show the trait. That's how it's always been with my other gfp x non gfp eggs.

I have gfp het for copper babies. I have not seen gfp coppers or het coppers offered for sale but expect we will see them
soon.

Thanks for the info. And yes, hopefully soon.

Thinking I'm seeing dark eyes on all mine (still in the eggs)...does this indicate the Melanoid is dad or too soon to tell?

The dark eyes wouldnt necessarily indicate melanoid, and the red pupils would be near impossible to see as hatchlings. But there's a 1/3 chance that the dad is melanoid so I suppose it possible. I got some photos of the hatchlings, I'll post for comparison :)

Here's some pics of the hatchlings. Not albino, dont look melanoid either. Never had copper larvae before, but I would assume they look like these little guys. Anybody able to confirm?

Mine haven't hatched yet but they look similar to those? I was thinking since the eggs were white if they were Melanoid they'd darken up over the next week or two after they hatched. But... I am a beginner so I may be understanding wrong. :)

Update: New pics. Im guessing theyre coppers, and possibly melanoids. Some kinda look gfp, but im not sure because the only gfp male in the tank was a white albino. Definitely no albinos in the clutch though, so ill guess ill have to wait and see. Theyre still too tiny to tell under blue led. The glow of Tupperware is too bright lol.

Since copper is a simple recessive non of the offspring would be copper if both parents don't carry it.

I am also in Oregon; where are you located? I would very much be interested in getting an axolotl from your batch if and when you part with them. I can arrange transport for them, depending on where you are in Oregon. Are you selling them eventually, and how much are you going to be asking for them?

Im in Oregon also and I sent you an email. I would love to get a baby from you.:D
