Hello all,

One of my favorite axolotl colors is copper. I was wondering what pair of colors most commonly breeds this form of albino. I have a gfp melanoid and a non-gfp leucistic males and a golden albino female. When my melanoid male and female bred I got gfp gold and gfp melanoid and non gfp of both colors. There is one gfp melanoid that is kinda tan with a black tipped tail. I have it separate because it hatched 1 week early so I decided to separate him and see how he grew in comparison to the rest. So far he is growing healthy and strong. But I was wondering if gfp melanoid and golden albino could produce a copper. And does anyone have pictures of baby coppers with just arms? I looked all through old forums and didn't find much. And here are some pics of the larvae.

Thank you

Evan

Axolotl colors aren't like paint: you can't put two together and expect a mixture of the two colors. Copper albinism is a gene. Your axolotls either have to be copper, or carry the copper trait, to make copper axolotls.

I know. But is this animal that I described copper?

That looks like a wild type. As far as I know the only copper axolotls in the USA are ****' or people who bought one from him.

That's definitely a wildtype. Coppers are albino. They have dark red eyes.

How can I tell if it is melanoid?

Here is dad.

Melanoids lack the 'shiny' pigment cells, iridophores. This is usually most noticeable in the eyes. Shine them with a flashlight and look for the shiny eye ring.

Ok. Btw why is it that wild types sell for less than the other colors. I don't understand why because I believe that axolotl's are like snowflakes, no two are ever the same. Some wild types are beautiful.

It is simple supply and demand, some morphs are more in demand and attract a higher price. It is the same in the UK, wildtypes generally cost less than the other morphs.

Should I repost a new poll that asks favorite axolotl color. It was very popular before.

Don't we already have a poll? Feel free to bump the thread.

Bump = to reply to an old thread in order to bring it back to the top of the queue.

Making new threads that are exactly the same just clutters up the forum. Bandwidth isn't unlimited, you know.

Here's a thread.

I made a more advanced poll a while ago and I can't find it. There is no record that I ever posted it. Any ideas?

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
