Hey guys.
A few days ago I spotted what I thought were grains of sand floating around my tank. I replaced my PF Mini Filter's carbon sponges, which were due a change anyway, and washed all my white sponges in tank water to ensure they kept their bacteria. I cleared a lot of sand out of the filters (I stupidly had one literally resting on the floor of my tank as its cradle is broken) and I thought that was the cause.
I looked a little closer and realised they were small white creatures with odd, quick movements and on closer research, I believe them to be copepods. I have also found a tiny snail attached to my tank, although I don't know how it got in.
I have read copepods are harmless and are a sign of a healthy tank, but also that they're a result of overfeeding. Are they a sign of a well established tank and should I cull them a little if there's lots? Are they really completely harmless? I just wondered because if I am overfeeding it actually implies I don't have a healthy tank >.<
Also, what about the snail? To free or not to free?
