I live in Ipswich, south east Queensland. Here we have had 38deg C here for 4 days this past week. I have been going crazy to keep my tank cool. I have my freezer full of 2lt water bottles. They only seem to last an hour at a time so my freezer is on over time. I also have a big fan swaying over the top of the tank all day too. My tank is over 4ft long and I now want to buy some styrophone for the tank but I dont know where to buy styro that big.
Anyone have any ideas of where I can get some?

a pet shop

they ahve heaps of foam for underneath peoples tanks...
but im sure you can get foam from many, many places...
(kira got hers from a fresh fish shop)
try, office supplies even

i could also suggest getting nick thick curtains (rubber backed), and as your pretty far north, a chiller, its a great investment...

Go to the fish shops or fruit and vege shops. They use the thick styrofoam and it on costs a couple of bucks. You will have to cut it and 'shave' off any uneven edges and tape it firmly together with packing tape.

@b00f - You really love that curtain idea eh?? lol its a good idea!:D

Thanx for you suggestions :D

well i think people who are trying to cool their tanks should try EVERYTHING possible before they spend big on a chiller, that may not even do the job they thought...

all it takes is the chiller to stop working, and temps will rise... with all the other precautions taken care of, less chance of things getting too hot too quick

Here is the US you can buy 4ft x 8ft sheets of styrofoam insulation board at any home improvement store. It's usually right next to the insulation. May not be as much of a demand for it in Australia though.

many years ago when i lived in north qld my brother had a pet frog and he just asked at the supermarket/veggie shop. they often have the cool-lite (styrofoam) boxes from veggies such as broccoli and cauliflower. He also managed to stick the cool-lite boxes together with silicon. (the type u can just buy from the hardware store)
