I checked the cooling article on caudata culture, http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/cooling.shtml, and while reading I got a bit confused. On example four, household fans, it says not to use this on terrestrial caudates. Does this warning apply to all fans, or just household ones. I am in a bit of trouble, because I need my terrarium temperature to lower by about 6-10 degrees F. It is 79 degrees F now, and a fan would help a lot, but I'm not sure if I can use it in my situation. Any help would be appreciated.

All fans. They will dry your terrestrial caudates out. I have used frozen water bottles in terrestrial tanks (usually one on each end) with some degree of usefulness. It's not the best, but it works in a pinch.

Thanks. I was thinking that all fans would dry out terrestrial caudates, just a misunderstanding. I usually put a couple of frozen water bottles on hot days, I find that it cools by a few degrees. I also put bowls of water with ice cubes around the enclosure.

Do we have to worry about the toxins leaching from the frozen water bottles into their water? Humans are advised not to put water bottles in the freezer and then drink from them for this reason. We are advised not to use plastic in the microwave and advised not to drink from plastic water bottles left in the car in the hot sun also for the same reason.

Should we consider the caudates more susceptible to the toxins?
