Hi all,
I have never bred axies, but I was wondering...

Can you use a sperm package (spermatophore) from one tank, and put it in another so that a female will pick it up between her legs and then lay eggs??

I that sounds confusing this is what I though of doing,

  1. Take a few spermatophores from a tank that a male has layed for female 'a' who is in the same tank.
  2. Put them in a tank with female 'b' who is in a tank by herself.
  3. Possibly get female 'b' to pick up the spermatophores and then lay eggs.

And if this would work...

How long will the spermatophores last before they 'expire' (go bad).

By the way female 'a' still lays eggs. :D

I don't know if this would work or not since the male during courtship will try and lead the female over the spermataphore. It would just be easier to borrow the friends male axolotl for a night or two than to go through all of this hassle.

Theoretically, a female axie can still lay fertile eggs upon reception of 'donor' spermatophores from another tank.

However, the female axie must also be in breeding status. Other than good health and nutrition, the female axie must be housed in a conducive breeding environment with appropriate breeding stimulus and triggers. For example, changes in water temperature and photoperiod (such as a drop coinciding with winter months) and an increase in water volume.

Presence of aquatic plants will also allow them to deposit their eggs.

Yes, thanks for your input. :proud::proud:

I understand that the mating 'ritual' takes place for a reason and therefore the only way to make it happen would be to simulate this in the manner of tempreture change ect. ect.:kill:

I think Justins idea

would just be easier to borrow the friends male axolotl

would have a higher success rate and would just leave the axolotls to come about their natrual ways. :yin-yang:

I see now that I am really just making this more tangled than it needs to be.
