Hi,

Constipation can be caused by your axie eating too much and then not reguritating it, or by them eating gravel and it getting stuck in their system.

The fridge is definitely the best place for them to be - mine pooed 5 times in 24 hours and is now ok

Your axie will be sluggish and off food, with a large looking belly if s/he is constipated.

Hi - My 4 year old albino axie, called Abra (as in Abra Cadabra - I have had her since she one month old and little more than a tadpole creature) is in a bad way - she hasn't really eaten in weeks, just nibbles at whatever I offer and quite often turns away from me - she is hand fed pellets and meal worms. When she first stopped eating she had a dark lump between her back legs and I thougth she may be constipated or have a tumor, but it disappeared. I've never heard of putting them in the fridge before, or salt baths, how do they work - I've been recommended to keep the temp between 18 & 24 degreee celcius and PH between 6.5 & 8. I change part of the water, keep her Ph and temperature constant and once a week I add a dose of antifungal treatment recommended by my local aquarium centre. I think that is all that is keeping her alive. Ok so tonight she is looking at death's door, floating with her head near the surface and her body just hanging down and I see quite clearly that the dark patch is back and rather bulbous, covering a large area between her legs, and I think this is her problem but definnitely do not know what it is or what to do -Help please - I don't know of any vet her in Adelaide South Australia who treats Axolotls.

Put her in the fridge for now, in shallow water, so that it covers her.

This will stop her stressing that she's floating.

Other than that sorry I don't know.

Wait until someone more experienced than me has some advice.

Hydri, you could try putting Abra in a shallow food safe container with just enough water to cover her & put her in the fridge. Can you please feel the lump & let me know if it's soft or hard?
You might be able to find a vet near you through the following site; http://www.petalia.com.au/Home/
