Hi,

My little fire sal doesn't seem to have been 'to the toilet' for some time now (probably about 2 weeks). I've had him about a month now and he has seemigly settled in well. He has been eating little earthworms and slugs without a problem and is kept on paper towels, so I know he hasn't ingested anything he shouldn't have. He looks nice and healthy without being overly fat. His behaviour seems normal enough, but I'm just wondering if I should be concerned/if there is anything I can do? Thanks

I had these concerns when I first got my Tiger Sallie last August, I never saw him go to the bathroom and even to this day I rarely find any fecal matter in his dirt. Once in a while I do but not that often. Seems to me that they use their water dish to go to the bathroom in most of the time and I'm thinking it dissolves in the water because I dont see it there either. I've been told that if he's eating then he doesn't have an impaction problem so if he continues to eat then he is probably fine.

Don't take me as an expert though, my guy is my first sallie and I haven't even had him for a year yet lol. Others might have a better idea on the matter.

sorry i'm not very knowledgeable with salamanders but i hope he's ok

Are paper towels the only substrate you're using in his set up right now?

It took me 3 months to actually find my newts fecal matter. Not saying it took them that long to do their business, but their feces blends in very well. It looks just like blobs of dirt.

Hope this helps some, good luck!

Alyssa
