I want to know how this forum feels about the levels of caring for certain types of newts and salamanders compared to keeping marine fish or total reef tanks. My question is on a level of difficulty what would you say was harder(of course you would have to have marine experience to answer). My friend Eric is on another forum that deals only with marine animals and he tells me its harder than keeping simple amphibians.
I just wanted to know how this forum feels about the levels in difficulty compared to keeping a marine tank.

I don't have experience with marine tanks, but I could see how they are harder to maintain than some of the easiest to keep amphibians such as Bombina orientalis or Cynops orientalis.
However I would guess that a lot of the maintenance depends on the size of the tank and what is in it. If the tank is pretty much stable and self maintaining due to the balance of organisms within it, then it wouldn't be hard to maintain. I don't think it would necessarily be fair to compare it to another tank or type of tank for this reason as I think its largely based on what's in it.

*continues waffle*

You know your right it does depend on whats inside the tank. I've looked at the best possible conditions for certain types of newts and i would definately say its about equal in my opinion.I mean certain species have to be put through a pretty complicated cycle for ideal results.

My fish are harder to keep than my cynops, but my frogs are much more difficult. I would say it purely depends on the species.

So I would put it at equally difficult/easy

I totally agree certain types of frogs can be a real pain just like keeping a sting ray or Crocodile monitor im not sure if those are legal in new york but i know someone who has 1.
