Am i ok to use coloured sand in my tank or will it damage the water quality??

It depends on the type of sand. Aquarium-specific colored sands will be fine, as are some types of play sand.

For my tank I use a couple of bags of 'aquarium sand' from the fish shop (coloured and expensive) and then I mix it with play sand (rinse this lots) from Argos or tesco's - I loose loads every time I Hoover my tank so I feel less bad about this knowing that the play sand is cheap as chips

Anything approved for aquariums you shouldn't have an issue with..

can I just say every time I see a post about colored sand I get this picture of an albino with a belly full of purple or bright green sand lol
I know it they won't ingest that much of it, but it's still a funny mental picture.

Just make sure it's freshwater sand, not calci-sand or saltwater aquarium sand.

Don't think there's that much choice on the uk to get it wrong.... Or not that I've found!
