Colour variations?

I've been reading a lot of posts here about colour. My 30+ babies (with front legs coming in now) ALL appear to be (according to the posts/pics here) leucistic. I understand this to mean that the pigment is only isolated to the head/upper parts and 'stretches' as they grow.

If I have understood it correctly, mine, which are all white/golden/clear at the mo, all have pigmentation or 'speckles' along the top ONLY (I have no albinos BTW). Their father was a golden, their mother a white leucistic.

Have not tested all of them to see if they have irridescence, though I have tried two with a LED torch and they appear melanoid.

So, my question is: Can ALL of my babies be leucistic (and melanoid/not) whites and goldens? I'll post some pics in a bit...

You're babies are all leucistics from the sounds of it. They have small patches of yellow and black on a white/transparent body. They all carry the gene for gold albino though.

That's interesting Jake - but why the gold albino gene? How can you tell?

I think what Jacob meant was: When their father was a golden albino (was that what you meant with "golden"?) and the offspring is not albinotic, then they will be heterozygous for albinism.

Ah Daniel - thank you. So, I caused the confusion!!... The father is Golden, but NOT albino (he has black eyes).....

SarahandRich - could you please post a picture of the father?

I've seen seldom cases where an Axolotl was mainly leucistic with a golden touch (so to say - yellow with black eyes) but that was non-hereditary, so the offspring was purely leucistic.

Hi It's nice to see the sucess everyone is having with our Axolotls offspring. The father is Lottie and mother is Spike (I named Lottie when we got him at 3 months but Spike came with her name as the man I got her and her sister from thought they were boys. All the best Becca
