My babies are now just over 3weeks old and Im so impatient on what color morphs I have! I want a black melanoid so bad and the more they grow the more and more sad I become :( Hahah I know I have just normal albinos(Not golden) wild type and leucistic? Does anybody see any possible melanoid in the pictures?

Sorry they are older pictures, my phone is saying i have "No no pictures" to upload to my computer.
I will take more tonight and post them on this thread tomorow!

If anybody can help me out It'd be so appreciated!

You definitely have 2 melanoids in the second photo :3 gimme a sec to look at the rest!

Photo 1 - look to be white melanoids (if you look at their eyes they lack the shiny pigments) It's hard to tell if you have any leucistics (which to my understanding would have the eye ring).

Photo 2 - the two on the bottom are dark melanoids. Above that middle dark melanoid looks like a melanoid white albino (notice the lack of dark eyes, and lack of eye ring (if I haven't made it clear lack of eye ring indicates melanoid - melanoids can still be albino, dark or white depending on othere genes). I would also say that one in the top right is a dark melanoid, just currently light in color. It'll darken up as it develops.

Photo 3 - looks like 9-10 dark melanoids, and I cant say for sure about the others, but either 1-2 white melanoids or leucistic, and 2 albinos, whether white or golden I can't really say for certain... it's hard to tell when they're that young!

Photo 4 - These look, again, like white melanoids to me because of the lack of shiney pigment in the eyes.

Photo 5 - definitely have a golden albino there, on the bottom (either that or it's a trick of the light!)! And two more... white albinos??? I actually think all of yours lack shiny pigmentation. I don't see a single hatchling with a ring around the eye.

I see a distinct lack of wildtypes.... and leucistics...

Hahah thank you! I thought i was lacking shiney eyes but i didnt know for sure since its so hard to see at their size.
The white melanoids seem to have a lot of freckles on them? I have a white melanoid with very light colored freckles, i can barely see them

You may or may not find these photos useful. The first was to show color variation in wildtypes and melanoids, the second shows colors at ~6.5 weeks.

This thread actually has got me currently writing a genotype/phenotype guide - I will post it oce I'm done :)

I know *sniff* my poor little Crowbar... I'm keeping a second Melanoid and naming it after Crowbar :)

Yes that was very helpful thank you! I hope by 6weeks ill be able to at least tell most of them apart because that is roughly when i am going to home them, if everything goes well anyways i said 5-6weeks.

Hey does anybody know what other frozen foods you can feed a 1.5"-2" axolotl other then bloodworms? We have a 0selection of live food except earthworms here and i have somebody who wants 10axolotls and he is so fricken excited to get them! Holy **** he is just as excited as i was! But anyways he told me he has a severe allergy to bloodworms as he use to feed them to fish and such. He said if he needs to he will just wear gloves. But im trying to think of alternatives for this poor fella
I told him he could try feeding them pellets that are high in protein? I dont know what the best kind of pellets there is.
I told him regardless of what he choses it definately wont be long before they will take small/chopped earthworms.

Two people posted before i was even able to post mine lol.

Im sorry i remember reading about crowbar but i forget what happened? Im sorry >.< i literally spend hours everyday reading threads on this forum lol.
I will definately love to read your guide when you are done! I am so curious on phenotypes. I currently want to learn more about phenotypic plasticity on axolotls who are left to cannabilise their siblings when they are young. I havent gotten around to doing much research as of yet because of life and school. I have a rat situation my vet bill is just climbing i had one attack another and it was healing fine and now it opened up and it looks herniated and infected and oh joy! On top of school with two weeks left till exams and 32axolotls amd 3rats in seperate cages omg! Yes i have my hands full. But i will get around to doing research someday!
