Hi... I know it's probably been discussed, but I need to take care of this asap. I just realized the smell in our house is coming from the salamanders tank. I'm thinking their worm friends died in the soil underneath them. It's awful, and I don't want to let them go too long. It's a mix (currently) of coconut fiber and organic potting soil (and dead red wigglers). My husband is worried that Lowes /Home Depot might not have the potting soil at this time of year. If I can't find the soil, is it OK to keep them in coco fiber alone?

Thanks!

I like to use coconut fiber over pea gravel. The pea gravel helps maintain moisture without having the fiber saturated. Press the fiber down a little when you do your set up. Have it moist but not soaked. I use the compressed bricks that expand.

Unless I missed something, I don't see pea gravel mentioned anywhere but idk.
Anyway, I keep my A. t. tigrinum on only coco fibre and it does fine.
