My axolotl has just laid around 100 eggs out of the blue. I understand that it is a low number, so at first I was not sure that they were even fertile. There were also no stermataphores (I have no idea how to spell that!) However, after a few days they formed a crescent, and I could even see tiny gills developing. They were even twitching occasionally. Then I ran into another problem. The eggs began to turn a little cloudy on the outside. You could still easily see inside, and there was no growth, just the outside was more defined. I moved them into a very cold (65 degree) tank to get them out of the parents tank. They seem to be developing quite nicely at a slow pace because of the low temp. So, are my eggs even fertile?

If your eggs have developd the crescent shape and you can see the embryos moving inside the eggs what makes you think the eggs aren't fertile?

There weren't any of those stermatphore things. A few of the eggs were also messed up a little. However, im hoping for the best.

they are fertile. If they are developing they have been fertilised. A female axie won't even lay eggs if they have not been fertilised, she would have just reabsorbed them. Most often you will not notice the spermataphores, i have never seen any with my breeding pair. Its normal for the outside of the eggs to go a bit cloudy and ragged looking as they develop, if the embryo inside is showing no signs of developing or is white and cloudy, those are the infertile ones because they have suffered damage. good luck with the eggs!

Awesome! Hopefully ill get a bunch of eggs!
Thanks,

My eggs were a little cloudy on the outside when I got them, but that was caused by dust from the water. If they are infertile or dead the whole inside goes cloudy, so I doubt you have anything to worry about.
