HI
I was wondering if anyone can help.
Over the past few weeks my water has been getting more and more murky by the day. Plus Ive been plagued by little tiny worms at the waters surface that seem to be turning into little flys that then sit on the surface too.
Ive removed the sand as that was looking a bit dirty. Even tho Im always with my turkey baster sucking up the poop and uneaten food. Plus thought the worms could be breeding in it.
Im doing daily water changes with dechlorinated water and all parameters are fine.
Ive even taken out the moss ball just incase.
A couple of weeks ago I did a just over 50% change to see if that would help, but nope, still cloudy.
the tanks at the other side of the room so not much light so doubt its an algae bloom.
I just wondered if im doing anything wrong? In a couple of months time my little guys will be upgrading to a 4ft long tank (after its cycled) and I dont want to go through all this again. So any help will be appreciated. :)

what type of filter do you use? what do you use as a substrate? what do you feed your aixes?

also, pictures of your setup would be a great help too.

hiya
at the moment ive just got a fluval 2 plus rigged up, but once we want an external one for the 4ft one.
I did have sand but at the moment its just the bare tank. And I feed them frozen bloodworm, thats all they seem to like, ive tried them on a couple of other things... shrimp, mysis etc.. but they dont eat it. Ive got an old pic on my album I can bring across the only thing thats changed is the sand and moss ball are gone.

Sounds strange ...

I know you say your tank is cycled, but sometimes when a tank is cycling you can get a bacterial (not algal) bloom which can make the tank go a kind of milky cloudy. Is there any chance something made your tank go through a re-cycle? How long has the cloudiness been going on for and is it still the same?

You could try putting some fine mesh over the lid of the aquarium which should prevent flies getting in and laying eggs in the water. (for example, a stretched out pair of tights as a temporary measure)

I know, its really strange and doing my head in! Havent got a clue how it could go through a recycle. Im testing the water though and all is fine.its been like it for the past couple of weeks.
oooh Ive got lots of old tights, that would be a good use for them :) at least they all seem happy enough and are eating ok but I just hate it cloudy, it looks like im not looking after them :(

have you cleaned out your filter recently? If I let my canister filter go for a couple months without cleaning, sometimes my water gets murky.

hiya
yeah did it a little while ago incase the worms were breeding in there. washed one in some removed tank water and popped a new one in too

Did the water go cloudy before, or after you cleaned your filter?

ooops sorry, not been online. it was going cloud before I cleaned the filter.

is it still cloudy?
