Hi all,

I decided to make the switch to sand while my axolotl is recovering in the fridge. I only rinsed the sand through twice (I know I made a mistake here) and when I added the sand the water was very cloudy. I added a water clarified and overnight the water is now crystal clear. My question is, is it safe to put my axolotl back in the tank? Should I take out the sand and start over??

Thanks!!

I'd be more concerned about being sure the ingredients in the water clarifier are safe for you axi. But if you know that's ok and your tank parameters are good there shouldn't be a problem.

I second what Giuseppe said. If you post the ingredients of the clarifier maybe someone on here will know.

Thanks guys. I'm confident the clarifier is a safe one; I've used it many times before in my axolotl tank for cloudy water due to beneficial bacteria blooms. It's called acurel-F. My axolotl is back in the tank and seems to be doing well. Thanks again!

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. I also asked this as an actual question in a thread in case anyone wants to answer it there instead of here
