Too many doubting Thomases around here!

I wonder, at what point could this be formally declared paedomorphic? After 2 years? 3? I'll go with "until proven otherwise."

I just love the way it curled its tail around the moss for support...

I'll formally declare it paedomorphic when it shows obvious signs of sexual maturity ;)

Ah, so paedomorphs do show signs of sexual maturity? Well, that makes sense, but what? Swollen cloaca?

I was told on the chatboard a while back that axoltls get "dirty toes" once they become sexually mature. Indeed, the ones that I have raised from small larvae have become like this. Anything else?

Yeah, and all paedomorphic Salamandrids that I've seen also show adult coloration to some degree.

im not doubting, all im saying is that if it is paedomorphic you HAVE to breed it. i emphasize HAVE TO since it would be nice to have a new kind of paedomorphic caudate that doesnt get as big as an axolotyl, plus you might be able to figure out if its facultative or genetic.

Well, as far as signs of sexual maturity go, it does seem to have developed a cloaca:

If it is paedomorphic that's really neat. It's head's shaped a lot like a morphed animal's, I say this because its eyes protrude from its head which doesn't happen in many paedomorphic animals like the axolotl. Does it have eyelids, many paedomorphs don't.

jsut remember to breed that bad boy tim, remember youre specific variety of C.e.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
