Hi all,

I have a chinese fire belly newt, and I've had him for a few weeks now. He's terrestrial, but has a lot of water in His tank. My newt doesn't seem to be eating any meal worms, or wax worms, and I'm not too sure if he's eating any blood worms either. I don't know what to do, and I don't want him to die.
So any advice would be awesome!

My email is wpaterson2@gmail.com!

Thanks you!

Although he has lots of water in his setup, is it a) at least 10 cm deep? and b) how much land are you providing him with? And are his conditions on land suitable? (ie. hides, leaf foliage, moist moss, etc.)

Also try fruit flies, wingless if you can get them. If that's difficult in your area try collecting aphids from a pesticide-free area.

Good Luck!

Aphids are great, bailed me out when i couldnt get mine to eat anything, Small caterpillars worked well, small whole worms seemed to work better than cut ones for me, wingless fruit flies work well but be careful if you put the whole fruitfly breeding container in the tank, when i was new to newts one of my babies climbed into the fruit goo and drowned itself i felt terrible. They can go for a while without eating so trial and error. If they are new there is also a stress period they can go through where they dont seem to eat. Where is your firebelly from? pet store, breeder, wild?

My newt had loads of water and a it of land, but now, I've put down a lot of wet moss for him, and a swimming pool. He seems to be okay, he isn't dry or anything. But I'm still not sure if he's eating or not. I have the same problem with my frog. :(
