My CFB is not interested in water even though my tank has a very gentle water flow from just a air pump that bubbles away at the back and having bogwood exits and entrances to the water there is plenty of plant cover and the temp is 18*c.All water conditions are perfect.the newt is healthy and eating. It is about 1.5" long. What should I do?

Your description of your tank sounds good. (is it new captive?) I have had newts that leave water for long periods of time. I wouldnt worry right now unless you see bloating or something growing on it. Does any other newts live with it?(anyone picking on it, although rare in my tank) Are you filtering it also? Give it awhile and see if it goes back into the water. (I would suggest other things, but it seems your tank is cool enough, etc..)

*sorry for the additional questions, but it's hard to determine without additional info.

The water is filtered. I only got the newt 2 days ago. I actually went up this morning and turned the tank light on and there was mi-nute as he has been christened swimming round happily. I guess he was just adjusting to his new suroundings before swimming. I was just worried because this is the first newt I have kept.

A CFB 1.5" (4 cm) is probably still a juvenile. Juveniles spend more time on land than adults.
