Hello everyone,

First let me let this site's coordinators know that I am truly grateful for any help offered to me. I am relatively new here, but have found many of the articles on the site to be of a big help.

I have a newly imported Chinese Firebelly Newt that has limb rot on one of its legs. After doing some research, I decided to quarantine the newt and use FURAN-2 to treat it. Now, I like what I've read about this medication so far, and it seems the most plausible to me. The only problem is, that limb rot seems to require treatment outside of the water and I was wondering if anyone had any input on this matter. I have always kept my newts in a largely aquatic environment, and therefore am leery of the idea of changing it. I have put the recommended dosage of the medication in the water, hoping it would heal the wound. Anyone have any thoughts on this matter? Is it necessary use terrestrial treatment as well.

Thanks. Any input is appreciated.

-Oh, and thanks very much to Abrahm for his last post with the source links. I found it very helpful =)

If the newt is staying aquatic, it is OK to treat it in the water. The medication you have is made to be treated in the water anyway. Many CFB have the problem that they won't stay in the water when sick, so it's necessary to treat them on land.

Okay, thank you very much for getting back to me. I feel better about it. The limb-rotting is not so bad that it cannot swim, so the newt is fine in the aquatic environment. Therefore, will continue the treatments in this way.
