Hi

I peered into my chinese fire bellied newt tank yesterday and noticed a string of eggs, they had a little black centre, today i look at them and they look a sort of reddish, is this a sign they are fertile?

also any advice would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like it, My newts laid an egg and it had a dark little centre, i left it in the tank and now i have a morphed CFB running around :D

Good luck, you can take it out and put it in a shallow tub or leave it to let nature take its course, however there is a risk one of the adults will eat it.

I fed mine live daphnia.

+1 sure sounds like it.

I just found a few the other day from my newts. I would place what ever they are on in a small plastic container with lots of holes in it inside the aquarium. This way they dont get eaten and they also stay in the same conditions as they have been layed.

Once a day I open the container regardles of the holes and try to change out the water inside it with tank water just for good measures.
