Hey there; just have a quick question regarding chillers- my tank stays between the 16-18 range depending if I have the window open, and I was looking to invest in either a chiller or a set of aquarium specific fans- does anyone have any experience with either? I'd like to maintain the tank at 15-16 100% of the time, and not have it fluctuating depending on the wintery weather outside and the heating being on in my house :p

Thanks ! :hat:

If 18 is the hottest it gets I really wouldn't be worrying about a chiller or about their temperature being anything but ideal :)

I keep a small fan aimed at the tank & it's constantly blowing over & reduces temp by 3-4 degrees - I'm about to get a proper tank fan which is only about $30 & it sounds like all you'd ever need to just drop it a couple of degC.

Anything over 25 is when alarm bells should be deafening - I nearly had a heart attack reading that someone's axie tank is 30degC today 0.0

Thanks Nikki :)! I'm definitely going to look into the fans, then- a chiller seemed a bit extreme, which is why I was hunting for feedback haha. I'm sure they're fantastic if it's a dire need, but they just all seem to be so... bulky.. and visually unappealing haha! Are there any guidelines regarding fans churning up the water that I should be conscious of? Or would any small end 60L fan be okay?

30 degrees? that's crazy; I don't even keep my tropical FW tank with my FH and Aro at 30 D:

You shouldn't need a chiller in Canada. It doesn't get hot enough for long enough to warrant the cost of a chiller. Fans should keep your tank cool enough through the summer.

The only reason Australians need chillers is that it's ridiculously hot there for so long. I would melt. I don't know how you guys do it.

I was just a little concerned now with the heat on over the winter months that there might be too much of a fluctuation going from 16-18 D: but thanks for the heads up, Kaysie :D ! I'm glad I didn't impulsively order a fan on eBay when I looked yesterday hahah !

There's a nearly new chiller unit on gumtree for $270 in Sydney if anyone is wanting one :)

Yes as Kaysie say's Canada doesn't reach temperatures like Australia.
For example tomorrow here in Adelaide it is going to be 44 degrees Celsius and I am really glad I have a chiller and air conditioning running.

This will be the toughest test of my Chiller yet. Hopefully there are not too many more days like it.

where I am (Perth) the heat we get is a dry heat, not a humid heat so it's much more bearable. and we also get a afternoon sea breeze every afternoon in the warmer months. if you're outside more than 20 minutes or so in the sun, you will get sunburn as there is never a cloud in the sky during the summer months. that's the only downside really.
