Question: Chiller w/ sponge filter

Hey guys, was just looking for some advice before I did anything major. I've had a young axolotl in a 15 gallon tank with a sponge filter and have cooled it with water bottles. I plan on moving it to a 20 long and use a 1/10 chiller in the new set up. I have a submersible pump to work the chiller, but would like to switch the sponge filter over instead of combining the chillegal with a canister filter. Can I just run the chiller's out directly into the tank or would that cause too much water flow?
