hi, i have always had cherry shrimp in all my tanks, even with fish that occasionally prey on them. usually my method is to raise them in a separate tank and toss a net full every week of so until they can establish a colony. how tenacious are Cynops when it comes to their prey. killies seem to be very active hunters, but my cherries were still able to hold a stable colony, angels too.

since this is sort of a compatibility post, how about otocinclus? i never really have any algae problems, and snails will take care of any little that does come, but i was just curious. i usually keep my endler tanks 70F if i can, sometimes dropping to 65F in the winter, and have had perfectly healthy otos in that, but i haven't experimented with lower temps yet.

FYI- there is no compatibility problem on the part of the cherry shrimp, even with eggs and young. the idea is to give a stable supplemental feeding source, not a one time shmorgus board.

the oto isn't that big of a concern, i don't really need an algae eater. i was mainly wondering if introduced a large amount of cherries and had enough hiding places if you think the newts might leave enough after the initial feeding frenzy to have a continual food supplement?

It depends on how many shrimp you're putting in and how many newts you have. Mark

If it worked with angelfish, it should work with newts. Newts aren't very efficient predators as far as fast moving stuff is concerned.
