Cheap, effective filter

This is a great idea, but I'm confused. I wish he had shown the final step of putting it in the tank. do you attach the other end of the hose to an air pump?

yes! you attach the other end to an air pump so air is blown down the tube of the filter. This is called an air lift, corner or box filter. It works by blowing air into the fiter, drawing water in the top through dispacement. you just rest the filter on the bottom, in the corner of the tank.

i like these DIY filters, just that if you dont have the materials it wouldnt be too cheap.

in the uk a bottle of coke is more than one of these delivered to your door(you even have to walk/drive for the coke) -

granted you dont get a drink but.. :p

**** Just to clarify ****

This is only if you dont have these items already lying around in your house. Stops you going out specifically to buy these items :)

I am just providing a cheap viable alternative to DIY filters

Moss and even java fern can grow on the filter i linked :)

I was thinking about making this filter but I had a question. Which parts of this filter are above the water surface and which are below? The video doesn't ever show that. Is the white tube above surface or is it all submerged?

Edit: Never mind that, I found another video and feel stupid for asking that question due to physics/science fail on my part but the answer is all submerged for anyone else wondering.
