I've just recently acquired a digital camera and was able to make my first endeavors into field photography while Mike was visiting during his spring break. I realize that most of these animals have been displayed before so I hope people won't be too distraught seeing these species again.

That's all for now. Unfortunately the pictures didn't come out quite as well as I would have hoped. The flash seems to bleach out the pictures, so I suppose I will have to find a way to diffuse that. Besides that I guess I'll just need some more practice (hopefully get out this weekend) and getting used to my camera.

Great photos Mark. What sort of new camera do you have? I'd love a great digital camera but it seems that you need to spend a small fortune on a decent body and then another fortune on a macro lense...and then when you've spent all that money you realise that you live in the UK and have only 3 species of newt to photo...dang! You really are spoilt over there. How many of the 358 Plethodontids live in Ohio? Cheers Mark

Mike - thanks for that very comprehensive list and what a list it is! i think I'll emigrate...

I've read briefly of A.platineum before, arn't they an all female hybrid of the Blue Spotted and Jefferson? How bizarre... must get very confusing at spawning time. Are they common? any photos?

Mark - I assumed your photos were from Ohio for some reason, hence the Ohio question..doh! A.mabeei should have been a give away... apologies

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Mike - I don't know that any of my pictures could trump yours, but I'll keep trying

Mark - I have had a few herping trips with Mike in OH on which we've found quite a few Plethodon (no to mention other Plethodontids, Salamandrids, and Ambystomatids), probably another source of confusion, no matter though. My new camera (new to me) is a Nikon Coolpix 4500. I'm pretty pleased with it so far and got a great deal on ebay

Nice ones Mark. I especially like the head-on shot of the opacum!

Thanks for the compliments Jen and William. The opacum were surprisingly difficult to photograph - pretty skittish and uncooperative. I found another female this weekend, not sure that any of the pics are up to par for posting here though

Mark,

I love the pictures - the close-up of the opacum is adorable!

Your pictures are every bit as good as Mike's. Keep on finding the cool stuff, guys!
