CFB Newt eating problem

Hi, I got my CFB newt almost two months ago. He is around 2 inches, tip of the tail to the tip of his snout. He has been eating perfectly (an earthworm about his size once every other day) since a week after I got him. For the past week, he refuses to eat and sheds a lot. He's also in the water way more. I put him in a new tank a little over a week ago because he has outgrown his other one. What do you think could be the issue? Thanks in advance

Is it shedding in one or two piece(s) or is it flaking off?

I have tried pellets, bloodworms and crickets (I know the last 2 aren't really that good for them) to no avail. And it varies. A few were flakes and a few were full body. I'm going to try to feed him again right now. I just don't understand, he was eating fine last week

Water quality? Could that be the issue?

No. He's in a rather small tank (2.5 gal) in only half an inch of water because he freaks out if there's anymore. I use bottled water and change it every other day, depending on how hot it is or if he has had a bowel movement. I just tried to feed him a small piece of worm and he backed up.
