My little salamander, Smitty, passed this afternoon. I'll miss the little guy. If anyone has any ideas why he might have gotten unwell, I'd greatly appreciate it.
He was about two months old. We suspect he had been taken from a river as a baby before being sold to us {mistakenly as an axolotl}. He survived the metamorphosis and I had thought he was doing well; I was feeding him regularly, crickets about every few days.
He did not have the proper tank set up for the first month or so; it was half aquatic, with sand, but mostly water. I changed it to a dirt home about two, three weeks ago. He seemed to be doing okay, but could the change have freaked him out more than I'm aware?
I know it might not matter much now that he's gone, but I really would like some ideas on what could have happened and if I could have changed anything for the better, for any future little guys I get.
