Cat what?

Hello, I'll be getting some Triturus marmoratus in Feb. so I'm reading up on them. The care sheets on your site mention "the characteristic cat-buckle position." Pardon my ignorance, but can someone explain that? Is that a synonym for amplexus? thanks.

Triturus don't have amplexus, but the male makes some interesting body positions (like a cat) when he is flirting with the female. The best explanation is "you'll know it when you see it"

Can't wait! Now, if I hadn't gotten all my cats fixed, I might know it already!

You may be able to find a few photos of it..I've seen em...with T. cristatus. Basically your "black Halloween cat" pose, as good as a newt can do it. Does a great job emphasizing the crest and overall body size.

Just to make sure: you get T. marmoratus in february. Are they adults? are they CB? It still seems Wild caught animals are sometimes for sale in the US, although they are protected in all the European countries where they occur in the wild. So only Captive Bred animals are legal. And then mostly you will get juveniles or subadults, which means before you will see them mating it will take a year or two.

But coming back to my question: are there still WC T. marmoratus for sale in the US? If there is evidence for that I would really like to know, as there is no need for it as the animals are often bred in captivity and I would really hate it if there still are illegal transports.

I am getting CB ones from M. Shrom at the Hamburg Reptile Expo. In February. I believe they were recently born/hatched/whatever you want to call it. I am excitedly setting up their tanks already!
I'm not in a hurry to see them mate or anything, I just wanted to understand what I am reading.

That will probably be the same ones I got my group from. They're almost three months old now and a little more than 2in. They won't breed for at least another year probably more.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
