Does anyone know how to keep T.Boscai?
Can they be kept in an entirely aquatic set-up,like ITALICUS,or do they need some land? What temperature do they prefer?

My T. boscai were 100% aquatic. I and gave them some small land areas but they never used them. I kept the temps around 20C for summer and around 10-12C for winter, and they bred. They were definitely my favorite Triturus, enjoy!

I'm surprised Yago hasn't replied to this, he seems to be a bit of an expert on boscai.

He posted some tips on them here before:

I'm raising some boscai larvae for the first time this year. I'm using the same methods as I would for vulgaris and helveticus- they seem to be doing OK.

Hi Caleb. Good guess!I am talking with him directly via e-mail.
Best wishes

My boscai are in the terrestrial phase and don't want to enter the water

.What do I do?Do I just force them or do I let them get used to water by gradually increasing the water level?

Sorry Franceso, I have confuse you with an Italian colleague. Well, first let me know some info:
1)how long did your juveniles metamorphose?
2)what is their average size?
3)What kind of diet they have nowadays and what they had during their larval stage?
4) What is the room temperature? Do you expect much higher temperatures during summer?
I will try to tell you a few tricks and recommendations. You can contact me via e-mail:yagoag@telefonica.net
Best wishes

Hi Nate
Did you rise the Bosca's Newts juveniles?
Best wishes

I raised a few...out of 70+ offspring, all but about 10 were given away to various people. The ones I kept did not do well terrestrial or semi-aquatic and all died within a month or two of metamorphosis. Apparently they needed a very small food source and the smallest I could offer at that time was blackworms. I'm not sure if any are still alive or not, as some of the people I gave them to have disappeared.

Hi Francesco, yago and Nate!

Francesco, are your boscai adults or juveniles?
if they're adults I suggest you to put them in an almost totally acquatic tank with only a floating cork-bark; if they're juveniles, I'd put them in a little tank with one or two "dishes" full of gravel and moss, and the rest of the tank should be submerged with about 2 or 3cm of water...I did so with my juveniles marmoratus and had good success...
let us know
bye

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
