Canister filter? (i want to create more space in my tank!)

Hi everyone, so my gallon (long) tank seems pretty crowded with my giant sponge filter in there... i was thinking of building a canister filter for my tank. Does anyone have any reasons why i shouldnt do this? I will try to buffer the current as best as i can to stop the water from moving too quickly... just want to hear any advice if i should or shouldnt do this project

I would think that buying one is a lot easier (and probably just as cheap) as building one, but if you are very handy, there is no reason not to. I use canister filters on my tanks. A spray bar is an easy way to diffuse current. :happy:
