Hi, i took a picture of my axolotl in the tank with it sitting in my hand still underwater and someone is whinging at me that axolotls cannot be out of water... not that it ever was.

can they breathe out of water?

They do have lungs but they're still aquatic animals and shouldn't be taken out of the water.

They do have some sort of lungs, but please don't take axies out of the water.

can they breathe out of water?

Technically yes they can breathe out of water as they have rudimentary lungs, on a practical level no they can't.

It's the same principal as humans breathing under water, you are physically able to breathe in, you just don't tend to survive the experience ;)
