Hey, I've asked question like this before but regarding not feeding her while I was away for several days. (Asking in advance) I am required to travel around the country for 2 weeks with my family in a bit over six moths time(I'm not allowed to stay and look after my Axie) and I have no family near by that can look after her and to be honest I wouldn't trust anyone else after what happened with my last Axolotl when I left him with a friend. Would my currently 3" Axie be able to survive for that long if I have the water kept at the ideal temperature and feed her heaps before I go and heaps when I come back. Taking her with me isn't an option as I don't think a road trip through the Australian countryside would be very good. Also does some sort of food that is able to be put in her tank for that long to feed her without affecting the water quality exist :|
Sorry if it's confusing
Thanks xx

if its a full adult then 2 weeks it could survive but if its still young the most you could hope for is a week max without food
If its under 8 month old it still needs fed every few days.

My Axie will be 8 monts old when I leave, would this be ok to leave her.

You could get away with it, feed it a lot before you go and leave a few bits of worms in tank for it to find. Then max of 2 weeks later as soon as you walk in the door feed it again loads, don't even go for a pee or make a coffee first go straight and feed axy
At 8 months it should be fine, but don't go away for more than 2 weeks. Are you sure no one can stop by and drop a worm in the tank while you're away?

As far as I'm aware nobody can come and feed her because every one seems to be leaving town or about to leave the same time I am, Would putting live feeding fish in the tank so she can feed while I'm gone be a safe option, if not I'll definitely feed her lots before I go and lots the moment I get back. Thanks :)

you could get an automatic feeder
Love Fish Pan Auto Feeder | Pets At Home

pop a few worms in it and it will drop in water at set time that way it has food.

Thanks, I'll look into buying one and seeing how she goes feeding from it before hand, if not I asked my pet store about live feeding fish and they said if she can't be fed while I'm away feeding fish would be the next best option because all of the axies in the store feed off worms and live fish because they don't seem to eat from an auto feeder.

the autofeeder will drop the worms into the tank, they will drop to the bottom and then your axy will sniff it out and eat them. you have plenty of time to buy one and then test it out get the electronic one with timer so it only drops once a week rather than the daily ones.

I found that if feeder fish are left for too long they can start to nibble on the gills of the axolotls, but if you have no choice then make sure you get little fish, the bigger ones are too fast & cunning. I don't know about automatic feeders, they sound like a good idea but will the worms stay alive in them or die & rot, maybe they are good with pellet foods ? I have glass shrimp in my tubs, they keep the water clean as their main source of food is biofilm, they don't appear to hurt the axolotls & they occasionally get eaten so maybe they could be an alternative if you can source some of them. I'm sure if I am wrong someone will let you know as I have noticed on here that no one seems to help until a newbie gets it wrong, weird, lol.

with the worms in the feeder you could pop a few bits of veg, say cucumber or lettuce and they will eat it and keep alive. even if it falls in water it will not cause much problems as you would be back soon to fish it out. worms can survive a while without food, well mine does.

I personally left my guys for a week with no food for christmas break and they're about the same age (actually about 10 months) but I would say maybe up the feeding for a few weeks before you leave to really fatten them up and I think the glass/ghost shrimp are a great idea! that's actually what I had in my tank and there were quite a few missing when I got back. How large will the tank be though? I would be a little concerned about water quality if the tank is less than a 20 gallon or isn't cycled by then

I'll definitely have a look at glass/ghost shrimp and see if they are sold nearby. My tank is a 25 gallon tank and has a built in filter and I aslo have an extra 2 in 1 filter/pump that I bought a while ago for a failed plan at keeping her tank cool, her water quality should be ok while I'm gone
